The village of Khokana occupies a large section of my photographic exploration of Nepal. Let me explain how I first came to visit Khokana. When I was in Nepal in 2016, early one morning my guide called to say we would have to change the itinerary for that day because of heavy rain overnight. Would I consider going to small villages in the Kathmandu Valley? Sure, why not?
I had no preconceived expectations about what I would find in Khokana, about an hour’s drive from Kathmandu. A half day of wandering the streets there and photographing the people completely captured my photographer’s imagination. I knew that I would return and indeed I returned four years in a row.
